Auditions for Leading Ladies

Auditions will be held February 4 at 10:00 AM, and February 5  at 5:00 pm.

Leading Ladies is a comedy farce about a couple young men who follow the all engrossing passion of getting money, and how far they will go to get it. These are the parts that are available:

Meg Snider = early 30′s, vivacious with enormous warmth and a great sense of humor.  She knows there is a big world to explore but has yet to see any of it.

Duncan Wooley =  50- 60′s, minister with a good heart but fussy, set in his ways, scatterbrained, and lost in his own world

Doc Myers = 50′s – crusty, like-able, curmudgeon, country doctor who takes no gruff from anyone

Leo Clark =  30′s-40′s – an actor from England. Witty and very charming. also portrays “Maxine”

Jack Gable = 30′s- 40′s – also a British actor.  sarcastic and a bit uptight.  also portrays “Stephanie”

Audrey = 20′s – extremely sweet and good natured, knows all the town gossip, & like Meg has yet to see anything beyond hometown.

Florence Snider = Meg’s aging Aunt.  ”very old, extremely crusty and has very bad eyesight.”

Bruce Myers = 20′s – Doc’s son, played football in High School, a bit slow on the up-take, but ernest & sincere, with a good heart.

 

 

 


Auditions for My Name Is Ossian Sweet

AUDITIONS FOR THIS PRODUCTION ARE FINISHED.

This play, written by Gordon Bennett, Professor Emeritus at Eastern University, will be presented as a reader’s theatre piece for Black History Month. The show will be performed on February 17, 18 and 19. Bennett’s play is based on the true story of Ossian Sweet, a black medical doctor, who moves his family into a whites only neighborhood in Detroit. The year is 1925. An unruly mob approaches the house with the aim of forcing the Sweets out of the house and the neighborhood. In the chaos, Sweets younger brother fires a gun. Two white men are shot, one dies, the other is injured. The Sweet family is arrested and put on trial. Friends of the family persuade Clarence Darrow to lead the defense team that pursues an acquittal for the Sweets.

Gladys Sweet………………..Ossian’s wife, early to mid twenties
Henry Sweet, Sr……………..Ossian’s Father, at middle age and older
Dora Sweet…………………..Ossian’s Mother, middle age
Henry Sweet, Jr………………Ossian’s younger brother
Clarence Darrow……………..Defense attorney, sixties
Prosecutor Toms……………..Leading the prosecution of the Sweets, middle age
Judge Murphy………………..Judge in the trial
Inspector Shuknecht…………Key witness for the prosecution, thirties

Additional African-American and caucasian actors will be needed for the ensemble.

Auditions are scheduled for Sunday, November 27 at 3PM and Monday, November 28 at 7PM in the theatre, 403 North 11th Street, Reading.
